Draco I kicked off from the ground and flew moderately low because it was quite cold now. "I see," I said, heading back in the direction of Caroline's house. "Are you going to present me to your parents as your husband?" I asked, slightly amused. There was a good chance we'd be accepted as husband and wife by Caroline's family, but there would absolutely no kind of luck with mine. Returning to my home was virtually out of the question.

Caroline I smiled and buried my face in his shirt. "Of course," I said, laughing quietly.

Draco I smiled. "I'm sure they'll take it well. Your mother and sister, at least," I said. I knew her mother and sister had never really had a problem with our relationship. They actually liked me. It was just her father I'd have to work around, but that was understandable in any kind of relationship, really. Caroline was his little girl and I was taking her away. "Do you think they'd let us stay for the night? It's getting quite late. Would you want to? Would it be awkward after you've said goodbye?" I asked. It was getting pretty late and not many hotels or inns would be open to find anywhere to stay but it might be hard for Caroline to go back and ask if we could stay the night after she'd said goodbye and then we'd only have to leave again in the morning.

Caroline I paused for a minute before replying. "I don't think it'd be a problem. We can ask," I said quietly. Horrible thoughts crossed my mind. What if Dad disowned me or something because of this, because I'd lied at first then come back? It hurt me to think like that. I hugged Draco just a little bit tighter.

Draco I felt her arms tighten around me and sensed the worry in her voice. "It'll be okay," I said quietly. "Everything's going to be fine. We've done it now. And if they don't like it, well, it's their problem, not ours," I said, nodding.

Caroline I bit my lip and closed my eyes tightly. He was right. It was just us now. And when I thought back on it, it had always just been us against pretty much everybody. Except now we had something legal on our side. I smiled at that, opening my eyes again.

Draco We soon approached Caroline's house and I drifted close to the ground. Her balcony doors had been closed and presumably locked. "I assume we're going through the front door," I chuckled, landing in front of the door.

Caroline I nodded. "Yeah." I slid off the broom and tried the door -- naturally, it was locked -- so I tapped my wand to the knob and heard the click of the lock moving back. I opened the door and saw Mum and Dad on the couch, looking directly at us. Dad's eyes held hope and I felt terrible that I had to crush it. "We...Urm, c'mere," I said, looking back at Draco and pulling him in with me. "We got married." Dad jumped up. "You were barely gone an hour! How is that possible?!"

Draco "We got married, in a chapel," I said by way of explanation, hoping he'd just accept that and not make us have to bring up the fact we just got married in Borderick's House of Love. Having to explain it to someone would kind of take away the meaning that we just got married by them pointing out it happened in a tacky, slightly shady Las Vegas type establishment.

Caroline Mum stood up as well, looking ecstatic, hugging both of us. she'd thought the idea was brilliant when I'd told her. Dad just stepped forward slowly. "So you're...married," he said, sounding like he was trying out the words before he got too used to them."

Draco I nodded, smiling at Caroline's mother. "We're married. And, to be quite honest, this is the best day of my life," I said, squeezing Caroline's hand and smiling down at her.

Caroline I blushed deeply and hugged his waist, still facing my parents. Dad watched, and I swear he could have popped a vein or something, and I felt horrible and elated at the same time. "Mine too," I whispered to him. To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure it had sunken in yet that we were married.

Draco Caroline's dad looked like he wanted to punch me and kick me out and never see me again for the rest of his life, which wasn't really a good sign, but I was pretty prepared for this. After a bit of silence, I cleared my throat. "We were, erm, wondering if ... maybe ... we could stay here tonight. It's quite late and it'll be hard for us to find anywhere else to stay," I said, looking directly at Caroline's dad.

Caroline Mum looked at me and nodded. Even if Dad said no, she would work it out with him. But I could somehow tell that Draco definitely wouldn't stay if Dad didn't expressly okay it. I looked between the two of them as they had a sort of stare-down. Finally, Dad nodded, very slowly. "Sure, stay the night. It's fine. Right, dear?" he said, putting an arm around mum. I let out a deep breath and grinned, as did my mum. There hadn't been a showdown. Thank Merlin.

Draco "Thankyou, Mr Smith," I said, smiling at him. Even though he was technically my father in law and most people called their father or mother in laws' by their real names or called them mum or dad or something, I didn't think he would be too comfortable with me calling him dad and I wasn't too comfortable either. Besides, it wasn't like this was normal circumstances anyway.
