Linette Another dawn, another busy day in the kitchen. All the cooks had been preparing for days for the Queen's big birthday ball and the whole place was practically run ragged between collecting ingredients, storing them and preparing them to be cooked. Nothing would actually be properly cooked until the next day but it would all start early in the morning so the cooks preferred to have everything ready for them to simply start as soon as they woke up. There could be no running late for an event like this. I would have quite liked to join in with the whole cooking thing and helped seeing as the cooks were so rushed off their feet, but none of them would let me. They told me to get back to cleaning and serving. And so I did, sweeping up after them and and washing ingredients, scrubbing wooden counters and generally tidying along with some of the other serving girls. At mealtimes we were sent up with the food for the royal family and for the lords and ladies that had already gathered at court for the next days festivities. Many people liked to be early to these things, a day early or so. Most high born families lived quite a ways away too and the only respectable and safe place for them to stay was the palace which was why there were so many people there already, with the rest that lived closer by arriving on the correct day. Having more people in the castle only served to make everyone's job harder.
Antony I left lunch early, barely eating anything before I excused myself from the company of my family and the various lords and ladies that were residing with us until the end of my mother's festivities. I didn't much care for anyone in the dining hall apart from my family. Lord and ladies had the tendency to be far too overly flattering if they thought it was going to get them a favour, especially from the King and Queen. That was why so many people had brought lavish gifts for my mother in hopes of pleasing her and asking a favour so that she couldn't possibly refuse because of their gratitude. My mother was well aware of this; she'd been dealing with it her whole life. She was able to smile and thank people and exchange pleasantries and politely refuse their favours. I had no such patience. I hated them all and it wasn't like any of them were overly fond of me. Nobody really was. I walked aimlessly through the castle until I got to the gardens, thinking about the night before. There had been another small rebellion outside the castle gates, again proclaiming their hatred of me and their desire that I be cast aside as heir to the throne in favour of my sister. The guards and knights had moved them away or killed them if they refused to go. Some say it's better for your subjects to love you, then they will always be loyal. I say it's possible to love two people at once, so what will having your subjects love you get? If you rule people so that they fear you, it is not likely they'll run off anywhere else or plot against you. Fear does funny things to a person.
Mycah As a squire to Sir Eric I was supposed to more or less follow him around and do his bidding, like get him a drink or food, deliver messages for him, help him equip his armour and fetch him his weapons and horse. It wasn't a particularly exciting job to do but it was on the way to where I wanted to be. Most great knights started out as squires to other great knights. And where better to learn how to be a great knight, than helping one? Despite the tedious and often repetitive nature of the job, I still enjoyed it because I knew one day I'd be able to climb higher than just being a squire and be an actual knight myself. The thought excited me and kept me happy most days while I worked, including today. Guards and knights were on double shifts to be able to guard the royal family and all the other lords and ladies in the castle so there was a lot more work to be done but I did it with a smile.

Clarissa; I was with Elaine practically doing my job. I mean, I'm supposed to help her learn the basics of being a lady. She'll turn out just fine though maybe with a different teacher. I'm not much of the...lady everyone took me to be. At the moment we were learning how to walk properly out in the garden. She wasn't keeping attention very well... well neither was I. They were sword fighting off in the distance in the coral. I was envious of Erik at the moment. He always gets to practice training if he wasn't out in battle.
Elaine; I sighed not wanting to do this at all. "I already know how to walk, why would I have to walk a certain way? Everyone has their own way they walk,"I said crossing my arms and looking away. "I can't really even concentrate with all the racket over there,"I said nodding towards the training coral. I looked up at Clarissa and noticed she wasn't even paying attention as she stared at the coral.
Erik; My whole head and heart was into my training. The sound of metal hitting metal always made me feel good. I was against Charles right now, rounding each other in circles. Yes, knights were on guard this whole weekend during the Queens birthday. We took turns guarding and it wasn't my time yet so I just decided to get some training in. I grunted as Charles sword hit mine, putting more pressure. I huffed and pushed him off, striking him in the side.

Linette As the rush from lunch finally slowed down, I was able to get a couple of minute's break. That mainly entailed me seating myself on a small wooden stool and eating some bread and cheese rather quickly until I was called to go back and start cleaning again. The last couple of days had been tedious and boring. I'd been set to sweeping and cleaning and serving and that was all. Usually I might be able to help with a little bit of cooking like mixing or something but the cooks were taking no chances with all the lords and ladies about and the Queen's birthday. They wanted all their food to be perfect so they weren't about to let the likes of a lowly serving girl such as myself interfere with that. I was kind of glad they'd had to bring in more staff to cover for the extra people inside the castle; it meant I finished my duties just before dinner so I was free to do what I wanted for most of the evening. But for now I was stuck sweeping and scrubbing.
Antony As I was walking through the garden and thinking of various ways to execute people who tried to rebel against me (because they surely would when I came into power) I came across Elaine and her teacher, Clarissa, watching the knights train across the yard. "Elaine, Clarissa," I said, nodding at each of them. I could tolerate them both; Elaine because she was my sister and a lot like me in the way of being stubborn, and Clarissa because she wasn't as boring and tedious as other ladies and actually quite liked sword fighting which made for good conversation. "And what lesson is happening now? Or is this a break?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. They weren't doing much except watching the knights train.
Mycah I stood back from the knights training, with the other squires. I always enjoyed watching the knights train because I would see them use techniques and moves in fighting that I'd try and learn later and that was always a fun thing for me. The other squires were talking amongst themselves, barely even paying attention to the knights but I was watching closely. Maybe I wasn't good friends with any of the other squires because they took this time to socialise rather than pick up technique and I spent my free time practicing.

Clarissa; I jumped slightly as a deep voice spoke to me. I turned, flushing slightly from embarrassment. I cleared my throat,"Um, the lesson is walking with grace and poise,"I said as I curtsied before him. I didn't like being caught with watching what I really wanted to be doing. I rose and glanced over at Elaine as she rolled her eyes. She always hated how people had to bow or curtsy.
Elaine; I huffed and looked at my brother,"Which is stupid because people can't help the way they walk so why do I?"I asked raising an eyebrow. I sighed and sat down on one of the chair by us. Clarissa tapped my legs, telling my to cross them.
Erik; I grinned as Charles finally gave up,"Good try,"I said as we shook hands. I took my helmet off and shook my hair, sweat falling. I sighed and looked over at Mycah,"Learn anything?"I asked as I glanced over at the other squires talking. I was glad to have chosen Mycah, he was a good kid and was dedicated.

Linette *tired of describing cleaning and sweeping and shdufojdsk*
Antony "Because it's what a lady should be like," I said, seating myself next to my sister. "Not that you really care." Elaine had never really bothered herself with being much of a lady and she always asked questions about everything. Mother and Father often joked that she'd been born asking a question. "What do you think of the rebellions outside the castle, sister? They want to put you on the throne instead of me. Do you think it would be to your tastes?"
Mycah I shrugged, passing him his wineskin filled with water. "A few things that I could practice. Did you know you tend to make the same moves in the same sequence over and over again? If you don't mind me saying, you might want to try changing the sequence more often. To surprise your enemies," I said, nodding. I had noticed that Sir Erik did that a lot during the last few times he'd practiced. Being too predictable could be dangerous since your enemy could quickly pick up on your sequence and use it against you.

Clarissa; I stayed quiet as they talked. I found this subject touchy. I wouldn't mind Elaine for the throne though she was to young. Anthony... he was... tough. I never liked discussing the subject.
Elaine; "Don't ask me that. I'm only 14. Yes, you're a cold and rude but I'm sure once you find..."I stopped for a moment thinking,"That right girl to soften you up and show you there's more than being a cock-headed guy, you'll make a great King,"I said glancing over at Clarissa then my brother. People hated it when I cursed since I was a girl and I saw Clarissa tense when I said it.
Erik; I frowned as I took the water from him, taking a drink. It was strange getting pointers from a 15 year old but I understood where he was coming from. I nodded,"Thanks kid. I'll keep that in mind. Now would you go get my horse ready, I'm supposed to go trail around the gates."

Antony I smiled slightly at what she said but chided her on her language all the same. "It's not befitting of a lady," I reminded her, raising my eyebrows. If my sister thought that a woman would be capable of making me into a better person then she was sorely mistaken. I would still kill anyone that went against me when I became King and I would still make them fear me. It was the best way to run a Kingdom, the only way. A weak-hearted woman telling me to stop and have mercy on people was hardly going to change my mind.
Mycah I nodded and hurried off across the yard and towards the front of the castle, where the stables were kept in case knights needed to mount and leave quickly. I found Sir Erik's horse among the many that now inhabited the stables and retrieved a saddle and bridle, putting them both on the horse before leading it from the stables back across the yard towards where Sir Erik was.

Elaine; I rolled my eyes,"Well it's true. & not all women out there are weak and forgiving so easily,"I said, knowing what he was thinking. He was a guy, they always through women were weak which they aren't... well some aren't. "Isn't that right Clarissa,"I said smiling at her. I knew some things she did which didn't make her weak. That's why I recommended her to be my teacher.
Clarissa; My eyes widened as I looked at Elaine. I glanced away,"Some women are not weak, you are correct Elaine,"I said suddenly nervous. I knew Elaine knew things about me because she's caught me either training or helping the servants. I just didn't want her slipping up about me which would not be a good thing. I'd be mocked, though I am proud of what I do.
Erik; I took one more swig of my drink and nodded at Mycah, handing him the wineskin. I took hold of the horn and swung myself up onto my horse. I've had this horse since I started training for a knight. He's one good stallion and I can trust him. "Thanks,"I said placing my helmet on a loop on the saddle, so I didn't have to wear it. "I'm letting you off for a little bit, so do what you please,"I said nodding at him before leaving to make my rounds.

Antony I raised an eyebrow, looking at them both. They were acting strange, but they were both strange anyway. "And what about, you Elaine? Have you found the 'right person' yet, as you put it?" I asked, smiling slightly. She hated talking about those things. She was almost the opposite of what a princess should be. Most girls were already married by now but Elaine hadn't shown the slightest interest in anyone as far as I could tell, and my mother and father weren't the type to force her into anything. They were probably considering some kind of match with a visiting lord's son, though. They did that with me, tried to set me up a lord's daughter in the last ball we had but she was nothing special. I had to kindly tell my mother and father to keep themselves out of my personal affairs.
Mycah I nodded, turning and heading back towards the castle and looping around towards the back where the armory and small forge were located. I had become somewhat friends with the smith in the forge and sometimes ran errands for him when I wasn't attending to Erik, so he'd made me own sword as a way of saying thank you. It wasn't the finest sword and it certainly didn't measure up to those that the knights had, but it was good and strong and sharp and good to practice with. I picked it up from the forge where I left it when I wasn't practicing and took it out to the yard, practicing a few of the lunges and parry's I'd seen Erik demonstrate before.

Elaine; I made a face at my brother,"Me get married? Hell no,"I said shaking my head. "I'm strong and independent on my own. Most men around here, hence also you, put woman down saying their weak. I don't want a husband like that,"I said snubbing my nose. Anthony was stupid to bring that up and it was annoying.
Clarissa; I laughed silently at what Elaine said. It was true though, about the men around here. They disrespected women, putting them down. Elaine and I have discussed the matters.
Erik; My horse took us slowly around the castle walls and were all the guards were posted. Checking to make sure everything was secure and nothing has threatened.

Antony "Don't curse," I tsked. I didn't say anything else to what she'd said. What she had said was true enough but it was just how things were done. Women were generally weaker than men and didn't do much, if any, fighting. They stayed at home and looked after the children. But Elaine thought differently. She thought that women should be allowed to be just as strong and independent as men. Which meant that all of the suitors mother and father had lined up for her weren't exactly her ideal person since they all were of the impression Elaine was a tiny, weak, delicate girl. Completely wrong, obviously.

LEAHHHH! -----------------* Elaine; I rolled my eyes and stood up,"Whatever. Clarissa you can be dismissed. I'm done trying to be proper,"I said as I headed away from them, more towards where the battling was going on even though it had stopped.
Clarissa; I raised an eyebrow as I watched her leave. She was definitely something else but... I guess that's what she learns from me. Well some of it anyways. I glanced over at Anthony, wondering what now.
Erik; Still riding around on his horse... blah blah blah

Hi I'm in turkey did you know lmao ---------
Linette I was off my duties even earlier than usual as the extra staff that had been brought in had allowed us to finish all the preparations for the ball early. they were using the extra staff for serving dinner so I was allowed to go after finishing my usual cleaning. Time off was something strange to me as I didn't get a lot of it so I didn't know what to do with myself really. We were permitted in the servants quarters and the gardens mostly but not around the castle. Outside the castle was a possibility but it was always a bother trying to get back in because half the guards didn't even register our faces. I decided a venture ou ofth castle might be fun, however, so I made my way towards the gates.
Anthony "So stubborn," I sighed, folding my arms as my sister walked off. "I suppose she's like me. But qualities like that won't do for a lady. I trust you're doing all you can to break her of these habits, Clarissa?" I asked, turning my head to look at the woman. She wasn't the most ladylike of examples to be teaching Elaine, but she could be passing her own habits along. Elaine was the princess, in the public eye, representative of our family. It wouldn't do for her to be parading around, pretending to be a man.
Mycah *practice practice praaaaaaaaactic*
