Kimberly "Bismark," I said quietly, knowing exactly where we were. "The capital. It should have a specialty pharmacy, if anywhere in this damned state does."
James I nodded and sighed. "That's it, then. We'll hit up the first Walgreens we see and work from there."

Cal I nodded again. "I won't be ... like this, after I've had it," I mumbled into my knees. This was the worst part; my brief flashes of sanity where I knew what was going on but had no idea how to stop it. I hated it.
Jezebel "What if there are people in this town?" I said, sitting up a bit. That could cause all kinds of problems. People wanting help and supplies. Hostile people. People even more batshit insane than Calloway.

Kimberly I shot a glance at Jezebel in the backseat and frowned, shaking my head. "No. North Dakota's completely empty. My father and I drove up and down the streets of almost every community in the state after my brother died, looking for people. Nobody ever showed up, and we found no traces of anybody still living." I began moving in the direction that I knew the pharmacy was.
James I glanced behind me at Cal and sympathetically patted his knee. "We'll be there soon enough, Cal."

Jezebel I nodded. "Right." I felt like I was being far too paranoid about everything but considering the situation we were in, paranoia was completely relevant at this point.
Cal I lifted my head from my knees and looked out of the window, noticing we were in the city now. Hopefully they'd have a place where they had my medication that wasn't looted or destroyed or anything.

Kimberly I parked beside the nearest pharmacy and turned off the jeep, glancing at Calloway, James, and Jezebel. "Okay, we don't need to take forever in here, guys. After this we'll try to find a nice, small house to stay in overnight. We can do this fairly quickly, yeah?" I asked, opening my door. I vaguely registered that it was beginning to drizzle as I stepped forward and into the Walgreens. The mechanical doors had somehow become unhinged, and debris littered the floors, but other than that nothing seemed too out of place. I slipped my flashlight from my belt hoops and brandished my baseball bat carefully, checking the store for any sounds of the undead.
James I hopped out of the jeep and slid my gun out from underneath the seat, checking to make sure it was loaded and the safety was off. "Kim," I called out softly. "Don't go too far in." I ushered Jez and Cal out of the jeep before crossing the threshold of the store, looking furtively around at the merchandise strewn all over the floors and counters. Going into the store at night wasn't ideal, what with the lack of electricity in the wires and the ease of hiding for the zombies, but as long as we made enough noise and brought the stragglers out, we should be fine.

Cal I got out of the jeep, making sure I had my handgun with me before I followed everyone into the pharmacy. "The medication I have is in a blue bottle and it has red writing and I think it begins with an I. I'm not sure," I said quietly, tapping my fingers against my leg as I looked on the first few shelves. I didn't have much of a clue where I was looking because my dad had usually gone and gotten my medication for me. I just knew vaugley what the bottle looked like. As I was looking, I heard some kind of shuffling from a few shelves behind the one I was searching on, and I froze. It was either another human or a zombie.
Jezebel I had opted to stay outside with the jeep instead of going into the pharmacy with them. Kim had said the place was empty but people could have arrived lately and we could really do without people running off with our supplies and means of transport. We could also do without zombies trashing the thing and we needed a lookout for any going in so me staying outside was easier. I'm much better at hitting stuff than finding stuff anyway.

Kimberly I tailed behind Calloway as he looked, shining the flashlight on the battles as we slowly passed by them. "James, you're good down there?" I called out. I'd handed him the other flashlight when he'd passed me to make sure nothing else was in the store. I heard a rustling behind us and spun on my heel to see what it was. Just a dead body, twitching in a pile of others. I frowned and shot at it once, just in case. The twitching stopped. I still felt a little hollow ache in my chest because I hated killing things, even if it was necessary.
James "Fine," I called back, swinging the flashlight from side to side so I could see everything. "Come out and play, little buddies," I cooed happily, laughing. I heard a crash and a swoosh as the flashlight's beam disrupted a zombie, and it flew up. I shot it straight in the head before it even had a chance. No other walking ones over here. "How's about you hurry the fuck up, Cal? Fancy being dinner for these little bastards?"

Cal "I don't know what it's called," I muttered, trying to look faster. How could I have gone so long without knowing what my damn medicine was called? I'm so fucking stupid. Right, blue, red writing, long name beginning with I ... maybe somewhere on this shelf ... "Found it!" I called out, picking up a dozen or so of the packets of tablets. Hey, who knows when I'll be getting some more. "We can leave now."
Jez I heard some crashes from inside and I contemplated going in to see what was going on, but then I heard James laughing and telling Cal to hurry up and figured it was just a rogue zombie he was having fun killing. If there were any more to be dangerous there would probably be a lot more noise.

Kimberly I took the remaining medicine from the shelf, mentally telling myself that we needed to stop by a pharmacy in every town to see if they had this stuff. "Clear out, James! We're done!"
James I made my way out of the aisle, shining the flashlight down every row I passed, shooting two more random zombies. "Coming, princess," I yelled, laughing as a particularly fat zombie fell to the linoleum'ed floor with a loud thud. Its fatty belly jiggled like a bowl of fucking Jell-O when I shot it. That's what I'm talking about.

Jez As I stood and waited for them to come out, the prickly, uneasy feeling of being watched bloomed in my stomach. I glanced quickly around me, keeping my back against the jeep to avoid any nasty surprises. "Guys, hurry up!" I called, loud enough for them to hear but not a huge shout.
Cal I waited by the doors to the pharmacy for Kim and James before going outside and to the jeep again. Jezebel was stood with her back pressed against the jeep and looking around like she'd just seen something and wasn't entirely sure where it went. "Are there zombies out here?" I asked, wide eyed.

Kimberly I almost ran right through James as I got out of the aisle Calloway and I had been down. "Oomph," I grunted as I fell on my butt on the hard linoleum floor. "What the hell, James? Look where you're going, yeah?" He just snorted and helped me up, hefting me to my feet with an exaggerated groan. "Damn, kid, got enough weight on you?" Har dee har har. I was vastly underweight for someone of my stature and he could tell.
James "Shut up," she grumbled irately as we exited the pharmacy. "You guys ready to go?" I asked, laughing loudly. I did so enjoy shooting zombies, and I was coming off a high of sorts. It was a lovely form of stress-relief.

Jez "We need to leave. Now. I don't think they were the only zombies around to be honest," I said, shaking my head and getting back in the jeep. I'd rather not stick around when anything could be out there. So what if Kim and her dad had driven around her a couple times? Didn't mean there wasn't anything, didn't mean I couldn't be suspicious and cautious.
Cal I put my medication in a little plastic bag that was meant for people to be sick in but oh well. I took one of the tablets out of the packet, retrieved a bottle of water and took the tablet. Just by taking it I felt a lot calmer, but that was my mind telling me it was going to be find because I had my medication and it was all okay now.

James I sighed and swung into the Jeep, starting the car immediately. "I'll drive, kid. Get in the side." Kim scowled at me as she grudgingly sat in the passenger seat and looked around.
Kimberly I buckled up my seatbelt and reminded the others to do so, as well, as James basically flew over a curb and drove down the center of Orchard Boulevard. "I don't see any other zombIIIIES!" I said, ending my sentence in a squeal as James unceremoniously drove over four or five zombies, all of which seemed less pale than most of the ones we'd seen at my house, less fluid in movement. They were young zombies, Fleshlings as most called them.

Jez I looked back at the zombies that had been run over. They were basically pancakes on the road now. As James drove around like a maniac I tried to keep a look out around for any more that might be lurking but I couldn't really see because it was getting dark and all.
Cal I concentrated more on my returning sanity than the way James was driving, noting the decreased anxiety, fidgeting and distress I was feeling. I'm a medical student, I always check this kind of stuff.

James I tried not to hit the abandoned cars in the middle of the roads we raced through, although all the zombies were fair game enough for me. There were enough stragglers to make the ride to the edge of the city limits a bit of a bumpy one.
Kimberly As James drove us out of the city like a bat out of hell, I turned in my seat and looked at Jezebel and calloway. He seemed alright now. "You good?"
